Hello and a very warm welcome to everyone working in the world of thermal processing!
Why We Built RetortProcessing.com
For years, vital knowledge in thermal processing and low-acid/acidified foods has been scattered in different places: reference textbooks, regulatory PDFs, or technical documentation. New QA specialists, expanding food businesses, and seasoned engineers alike have faced the same hurdle: finding reliable, peer-reviewed, and practical answers when you need it.
We created RetortProcessing.com to change that. Our goal is to build an open, accessible, and supportive global community where we can all connect, learn from one another, and solve processing challenges together.
What You’ll Find Here
The platform is designed around two main pillars:
The Open Discussion Community:
A friendly, collaborative space to ask day-to-day questions, troubleshoot line issues, discuss equipment nuances, or share practical processing insights.
The Knowledge Base:
In-depth, curated technical guides written and vetted by our team—covering everything from $F_0$ and lethality calculations, heat penetration protocols, and 21 CFR 113/114 compliance to pouch seal integrity and FDA filings. Every article features an open comments section so you can ask follow-up questions right below the guide.
What Can We Talk About?
Our community is organized into focused categories to help you jump right into the discussions you care about:
- Regulatory & Compliance: 21 CFR 108/113/114, FFR, FCE/SID filings (Form 2541 series), FSSAI, and EU export rules.
- Process Validation: Scheduled processes, heat distribution & penetration, lethality, and acidified foods.
- Retort Equipment & Instrumentation: Static, rotary, shaka, steam-air, and water spray retorts, as well as data loggers and RTDs.
- Packaging & Integrity: Double seams, retort pouches, glass closures, and seal testing.
- Quality & Food Safety: HACCP, GMPs, BRCGS, FSSC 22000, commercial sterility testing, and audits.
- Troubleshooting & Incidents: Swells, process deviations, seal failures, and root cause analyses.
- Co-Packing & Industry Directory: Connect with contract manufacturers, equipment suppliers, and verified process authorities.
How to Get Started
We would love for you to make this space your own:
- Say Hello: Head over to our Community section and introduce yourself! Let us know what you process, what retorts you operate, or what technical areas interest you most.
- Ask a Question or Share an Insight: Stuck on a filing step, dealing with an unusual heat-penetration curve, or have a best practice to share? Open a thread—no question is too basic or too complex.
- Explore the Knowledge Base: Check out our starter articles, leave your thoughts in the comments, and tell us what guides you’d like us to write next.
Thank you for being here from day one. Great communities are built by curious, generous professionals who care about doing things right and we are thrilled to build this together with you.
Welcome aboard!
